Congratulations to Wright Institute Los Angeles (WILA), NCP's Partner in Training, for filling an important and timely need in the community. As more and more stories of sexual harassment within the entertainment industry come to light, WILA has teamed up with Women in Film to offer Safe Space, a free and confidential support group for women in the industry who have experienced sexual harassment.
Safe Space is facilitated by therapists who specialize in empowering survivors of trauma and abuse, and is an especially important resource for those who cannot afford expensive private treatment or who have inadequate insurance coverage.
“'Group therapy can be a powerful tool in a survivor’s path to healing and taking meaningful action against predatory behavior,'” Women in Film executive director Kirsten Schaffer told The Hollywood Reporter this week. “'WILA’s team of dedicated, trauma-informed therapists will help WIF expand the resources we’re able to offer to survivors of sexual harassment in the entertainment industry.'”
WILA is currently assembling the pilot group from callers to Women in Film's sexual harassment help line. Safe Space will meet once a week for five weeks, beginning in mid-February, and may grow into more groups, including those for male survivors.
