Active Members

Active Members have all membership privileges, including voting, holding all offices, and eligibility to be on the faculty. Within the class of Active Members, there are three subcategories: Full, Dual and Life. All Active Members must have graduated with a clinical certificate from a psychoanalytic institute approved by the American Psychoanalytic Association (APsA), the International Psychoanalytic Association (IPA), or with equivalent training determined by the Membership Committee.

Full Members

Active members have all membership privileges, including voting, holding all offices, and eligibility to be on the faculty. Graduates of NCP’s Psychoanalytic Training automatically become Full Members.

Dual Members

Active members have a clinical certificate from a psychoanalytic institute approved by APsA or IPA, or have graduated with equivalent training as determined by the membership committee, and who are paying active dues to another psychoanalytic center or society. Dual members have all membership privileges, including voting, holding office, and eligibility* to be on the faculty.

Life Members

Current NCP Active members who are eighty or older and have at least ten years of membership who request Life Member status. Life Members have all membership privileges, including voting, holding all offices, and eligibility to be on the faculty.

*An additional approval process is required for graduates of other organizations

Qualifications

An Active Member must be one of the following:

  • a graduate of the New Center for Psychoanalysis Psychoanalytic Training Program
  • a graduate of any other Psychoanalytic Training Institute approved by APsA or by IPA
  • a graduate of equivalent training as determined by the Membership Committee in its sole discretion
    • The Membership Committee may have additional requirements.

Application Procedure

Automatic Membership:

Upon graduation, persons who matriculate as psychoanalysts-in-training in the Psychoanalytic Training at NCP shall be automatically admitted as Active Members.

Current Active Members who fit the criteria for Life Member as described above must notify the Center by submitting their request to Tina Walters, Director of Operations, at tinaw@n-c-p.org if they wish to request Life Member designation.

Application for Membership:

A majority vote of the Board is required to accept all applicants who are not accepted automatically as above.

Applicants must submit the application form on this site with the following addenda. All items are required.

  • Terms of NCP Membership and Hold Harmless Statement- download the document HERE and submit signed copy
  • Ethics Disclaimer- download the document HERE and submit completed and signed copy
  • Current curriculum vitae- including undergraduate and post-graduate education training, dates of graduation and/or certification, and/or licensure, and professional association affiliation
  • Letter of Intent to the Membership Committee
    • Purpose: Clearly state the intention to apply for a specific membership category
    • Interest: Explain why you want to join NCP
    • Benefits: Outline how you intend to contribute to NCP and what you hope to gain
    • Commitment: Express your dedication to participating actively and contributing to NCP's success
  • Copy of current professional mental health practitioner license (or registration card for Research Analysts)
  • Copy of current malpractice policy (coversheet showing policy dates)
  • Diploma or Certificate of Completion from a psychoanalytic training program at a Psychoanalytic Institute approved by APsA or IPA
  • Letters of Recommendation (can be submitted separately):
    • One Letter of Recommendation- from the President or Dean of the previous or current Psychoanalytic Society and/or Institute; the letter must state that the applicant is a member in good standing
    • Two Letters of Recommendation- from NCP members, organization or academic colleagues, and/or other professionals

Full Membership $1,380.00 per year
Dual Membership $690.00 per year
Life Membership Voluntary Dues

Please note that membership dues are subject to change and typically increase by 3% yearly.
