NCP Member-Only Blog > September 2021 Board Meeting Summary
Classes are beginning. We are excited to have 14 first-year adult psychoanalytic psychotherapy students and four child psychoanalytic psychotherapy students. The analytic training program welcomes six first-year candidates (three of whom are from China). We are continuing to conduct all classes over Zoom through December and hopefully by January we can begin a hybrid model of instruction.
The Board met at a Sunday morning retreat in August and a summary of those topics was reported at the September meeting, where the board also moved to create a new Governance Committee and two new task forces: Executive Director Search Team, and a Bylaw Revision Team. Cecilia and Paulene Popek worked over the last few months to complete a draft of the Board Handbook, which was presented to the board for comment. Paulene prepared and conducted a board orientation that reflected many of the items in the Handbook. The Governance Committee will now take on the responsibility of completing the Handbook and giving an annual Board orientation.
Over the next year, the board focus will include strategic planning (financial and educational), overseeing the operating budget, supporting the mission, and leadership development. This coming year is an important transition year for NCP. Not only have we embarked on training international students, but we will also soon have an extensively renovated building with state-of-the-art technology and systems for HVAC, electrical and A/V presentations, and the beginning of a search for a new Executive Director.
A few members of the Archive Committee attended the meeting to answer questions from board members about their plans for the coming year. The board came to agreement on some of the parameters they felt were important for the Archive to address.
Lastly, we have submitted our application to the BPPE for a renewal of our exemption and we should hear soon.
