I am writing concerning the recent changes at ACPEinc and to make a plea for your help in continuing the work of our organization. As you know, our Chair, Sheila Hafter Gray died over a month ago and we are in the process of reorganizing. As we approach our in-person meetings in March (although they will be virtual again this year), we are faced with a crisis. We need to elect at least four new trustees to keep our contingent of trustees. Another two trustees are going into their ninth year and must rotate off the board in one year.

We are also facing a dire shortage of site visitors. Many of you know that Sheila often served as a site visitor on almost all our visits. While this was important in the early days, we came to rely upon her ready service. In short, we need to have a reliable cadre of site visitors who are NOT trustees in order to ensure a wide representation on our visits. A crucial example: only two trustees are from the west; only one of our potential site visitors (so far) is from the west. This is a huge burden as we must conduct two virtual site visits this year of California programs.

In summary, we need at least ten certified psychoanalysts to serve as either trustees and/or site visitors. We also need a candidate to serve as a public member of the board. If each program could nominate one person to serve in either capacity, we would be able to move forward with our tasks without unduly burdening our trustees.

While this is a request, I want to emphasize that it is our members' responsibility to help us do the work of accreditation along with our other tasks. Please circulate this appeal to your faculty and candidates. We are presently operating with so few trustees and site visitors that our ability to function may be compromised. We must have the help of our members to continue our work.
