NCP Member-Only Blog > Member Highlight of the Month: Heather Silverman
This month we appreciate Heather Silverman, MD. Heather has recently taken over as program director following in the steps of Mike Gales, our longtime, productive, and faithful colleague. The committee members–Tom Brod, Josh Richmond, Brian Stachowiak, Jennifer Langham, and myself–meet monthly to discuss ideas for speakers for our Scientific Meetings as well as presenters for larger programs. One of the committee’s goals is to seek speakers who have recent publications or work in focused areas reflective of a range of analytic thought. The committee follows our mission of diversity and inclusion and attempts to create programs that provide in-depth training and continuing education to mental health professionals.
The program director plays an important role in NCP because programs are an outreach effort to engage the community in psychoanalysis. The role of the program director often includes initial contact and approval of agreements with presenters, making sure we have staff availability, and overseeing gathering course objectives, dates, times, fees, and travel expenses. It is a complicated process and, once the program is over, we evaluate the program and then move on to the next one. Thank you, Heather, for taking over this position, as it is invaluable to NCP to continue to be a leader in providing interesting and provocative programs to our community.
