March 2022 Board Meeting Summary

posted on Apr 5, 2022

A huge THANK YOU was given to Aimee and Natalia for all the work they did in creating short videos that can be used as individual clips or as a short film about NCP. Several people gathered at NCP to talk about our different training programs. Look for a link to the film as soon as it is ready. The Strategic Planning Committee is pleased to announce that we have found two very qualified candidates for the Executive Director position. Both are scheduled for additional interviews and to come to NCP to meet staff and program leaders. We expect to have this process completed and to be able to introduce that person at the annual meeting on June 11. We do not yet have a date for honoring and saying goodbye to Cecilia.  The tentative plan is to hire Cecilia part-time for the summer to help with the transition and to tie up loose ends.

The Finance Committee made a recommendation to the Board to raise the 4% rule of taking distributions to 5% because of increased costs and hopefully the additional costs of returning to in-person operations. The Finance Committee will also make an in-depth review of our expenses and income and make recommendations to the Board about how to offset expenses and accommodate increased funding if needed.

We continue to work on a proposal for the development of a policy toward costs for co-sponsored programs. We included on the website home page reference to recent policy statements about the war in Ukraine and attacks on trans children. A thank you to APsaA and the Diversities Committee who thoughtfully crafted policy statements in conjunction with the Board. The Board made a recommendation to the Archive Committee to concentrate their work on preparing an inventory of the remaining materials that need to be digitized and cataloged. The Archive Committee is also helping to create a History Wall in the reception area of NCP.

The Program Leaders gave an update on the Open House that was held on March 13. Lots of interested students attended and we will see how many are ready to apply this year. The A/V presentation technology at NCP will be installed by the end of March and all systems ready for the staff to be trained on its use. We discussed what restrictions should be in place when events begin to happen in person.  Vaccination and masks will be required at this point. We will let everyone know of changes in policy as the Covid situation evolves.

Lastly, we are going to invite members who are artists to submit their work to the “Art Committee.” We plan to have rotating exhibits on display. We are proud of our community of artists.
