February 2023 Board Meeting Summary

posted on Apr 1, 2023

The Board held a special meeting on February 26 to work on bylaws changes. The Bylaw Task Force, consisting of Gabrielle, Luis, Cecilia, and Amber, after extensive work as a team, led the Board in a review of proposed bylaw changes and updates. A final draft will be presented to the Board to approve before sending to the membership. We anticipate the approved draft will be sent out the week of April 17. We will call a special meeting of the membership for Friday, April 28 to discuss the changes. Ballots will be sent out to the membership for approval of the bylaw changes as well as member nominations for positions open on the Board. The annual meeting will be over Zoom and is scheduled for June 15 to announce newly elected officers, committee reports, and bylaw revisions. We had our first kickoff meeting with our consultant that is working with us on the BPPE application. We are working toward changing from Exempt to Approved Non-accredited status with the BPPE, which will allow us to include Research Analysts as Candidates in the training program. The application is a laborious task and it will take several months to complete.  We are pleased that program leaders and committee chairs are involved in this process.

Michele Gomes, the Chair of the Diversity Committee, presented to the Board a comprehensive proposal for a Fellowship Program at NCP. The Board overwhelmingly supported the proposal to support 3-5 community members in various activities of NCP. The fellowship would include mentorship, some class participation, projects, etc. The program will be described in greater detail in the following newsletter.
