Board of Directors Summary: October 2020

posted on Oct 1, 2020

There were several important announcements made at the September board meeting. The first and most important was a congratulations and thanks to the Diversities Committee for organizing the important conference and meetings with Anton Hart and Beverly Stoute. Some important upcoming programs include:

  • Three-part series on a Psychoanalytic Perspective on the 2020 Election
  • Presentations by Dr. Ofra Eshel on January 23 & 24
  • Archive Program on February 6 (a historical look at NCP and struggle with “otherness”)
  • Honoring Peter Loewenberg and his contribution to Research Training (date to be announced)

As a result of our many donors, past and present, who have given generously to the Scholarship Fund, NCP is able to offer financial aid to many of our students. Our newly organized Scholarship Committee, chaired by Lisa Bode, is responsible for making decisions about these requests. Announcements to the recipients will be made soon.

In an effort to plan for our future, a Strategic Planning Retreat Group, involving 18 members of the New Center, met over the summer to redraft our vision and mission statement. The Board of Directors has approved presenting this new vision and mission statement to the membership.

A New Vision and Mission for NCP

Why is a vision and mission statement so important?

As we face the future challenges of aging membership, emerging technologies, attracting a wider and more diverse student body, and the prudent acquisition, allocation, and conservation of resources, it is essential for us to take coherent steps to develop, evaluate, and implement best practices in our psychoanalytic education programs. Our ability to provide excellent and accessible future programming lies at the heart of the vision and mission of NCP.

What is a vision statement?

A vision statement is an inspirational description of an idealistic future for an organization. The vision describes the basic human inspiration that propels the organization's actions.

What is a mission statement?

A mission statement describes an organization’s fundamental, unique purpose. It communicates the value the nonprofit delivers, and what groups it serves and how.

We welcome your comments. A Zoom discussion of this proposed change will be announced soon. If you cannot attend that meeting, please send me an e-mail with your suggestions or comments to ppopek123@gmail.com.
