November 2020 Board Summary

Greetings and Happy Holidays to all of you. As this year ends, I find myself looking back and marveling at what a year it has been. The world was hit by the covid-19 pandemic, the political scene going from bad to seemingly worse, and everything shutting down.

I am quite amazed and very proud about the way our organization has been able to accomplish so many things. Let’s celebrate our accomplishments:

  • New staff and increased administrative organization
  • New financial group that is competent, friendly and accessible
  • Ability to shift into online teaching
  • Ability to offer virtual programs with international speakers
  • Creating other virtual programs that continue to attract large crowds
  • Accelerating the move toward computerized systems (CE certificate, student/teacher evaluations, committee reports, board minutes, etc)
  • Increased revenue from programs with decreased expenses
  • New Scholarship Committee
  • Dean’s organization and recent approval of international online analytic training

WE CAN AND DID RISE TO THE OCCASION AND WE DID WHAT’S HARD

We have plans for the future. Upgrading our building, bylaw changes, reorganization of some of the board positions, budgets for each training program, new programs, securing our status with the BPPE, and a look at partnerships with other institutes. The Board of Directors has engaged in strategic planning with a focus on our ability to build NCP as a strong, vibrant and diverse center for psychoanalytic education. I feel grateful to work with these dedicated individuals who tirelessly come together to discuss and make decisions about sometimes very hard issues.

At the November Board meeting we continued our conversation about the vision and mission statement, approved several new members, approved the contingency plan partnership with Newport Psychoanalytic Institute, heard Susan Donner talk about the very successful recent Virtual Playroom Zoom program with over 200 people led by Clinical Associate Natalia Boucher and promoted by the Child Program, and listened to Aimee Martinez report on the vitality of the Clinical Associates and their desire to come together and be involved in the Institute and the community.

I look forward to seeing you on December 5 at our holiday party. Until then, I hope you all stay well and safe.
