BPPE Update

posted on Nov 13, 2023

The good news is that we are continuing to move forward with our new application to the BPPE.  Let me remind you why this BPPE operating approval is very important to our future for many reasons:

  • We will not succeed in seeking accreditation without it, and without accreditation, we cannot offer a PsyD (something our students ardently desire).
  • We cannot compete with institutes that are able to offer Research Psychoanalyst training (e.g., Newport and ICP). Our Institute’s experience has been shaped by the contributions of academics since its inception, and we have two dozen active RP members working in all four training programs and extension.
  • With approved status, we will have the flexibility to raise tuition, which we have not done for at least 18 years.
  • The application requires creating internal infrastructure and policies and procedures, many that are long overdue… these not only put us in compliance, but with streamline our planning, our internal and external communications, assist with succession/ onboarding of new leadership and staff and our overall operations.
  • Being approved assures those who are training with us that we are committed to common best practices in post-secondary education…and that we aim higher than professional “development” but offer a deep, multi-year professional educational experience.
  • The process of having a third-party financial review may put us in better stead to be able to apply for grants…

All course descriptions are being modified to meet BPPE criteria.  Many instructors have worked to provide us with their courses in this new structure and we are grateful for their hard work and responsiveness to our requests. Our Dean, Aranye, has been invaluable in her knowledge and familiarity with the academic requirements for state approval. She has devoted countless hours to reading and editing course descriptions submitted by faculty. We owe her our deep gratitude for her active role in this process. We are working hard to complete the application for submission early next year.
