Andrea Celenza: Embodiment and the Perversion of Desire

March 16, 2023, 8:00 - 10:00 PM

Pacific Time

*** Registration will close at 4:00 PM on the day of the event. No registrations are possible after this time, no exceptions. ***

Andrea Celenza, PhD

Dr. Andrea Celenza is well-known for her lively integration of clinical cases with a fresh perspective on deeply unconscious relational dynamics. Through clinical processes, she will demonstrate how to help our patients get in touch with their emotional feeling states, the sense of being in their body and their sexual desire, all fundamental to their vitality.

Dr. Celenza will introduce us to “Laura" who considers her sexual desire to be perverse. She will offer a prismatic display of the multiple subjective positions and affective, embodied states that are universal potentials. Her schematic also depicts the extent to which each position is integrated and interpenetrates with other positions, including Laura’s ultimate unconscious defensive stance in which the Embodied Subject is split off/dissociated with deadening of affective experience.

Learning Objectives

As a result of attending this session, participants should be able to:

  • Describe and contrast the differences between perverse modes of relating and healthy modes of subjective experience
  • Define perversion in contemporary terminology
  • Explain the dynamics that may engender perverse and healthy erotic transferences
