Bio/Background:
Christopher G. Walling, PsyD, MBA is a licensed clinical psychologist and board-certified psychoanalyst whose scholarship bridges relational psychoanalysis, trauma studies, and the science of human sexuality. He is Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Research Psychology at the California Institute of Integral Studies, (CIIS) and Faculty Chair of Adult Psychoanalytic Training at the New Center for Psychoanalysis in Los Angeles. His teaching and supervision emphasize embodied approaches to psychic development, relational psychoanalysis, and the neurobiology of affect regulation.
Dr. Walling holds the designations of Fellow of the American Board of Psychoanalysis (FABP) and Fellow of the International Psychoanalytical Association (FIPA). Beyond CIIS, he serves on the American Psychoanalytic Association’s Committee on Gender & Sexuality and is a Clinical Research Fellow at Indiana University’s Kinsey Institute for Research on Sex, Gender and Reproduction located at Indiana University Bloomington and serves on their International Advisory Council. He has served as the Research Chair & Past-President of the United States Association for Body Psychotherapy,where he also sits on the International Advisory Council. Previously he was Research Chair and President of the United States Association for Body Psychotherapy and Associate Deputy Editor of the International Body Psychotherapy Journal.
His peer-reviewed work appears in the American Psychological Association’s Psychotherapy and the International Body Psychotherapy Journal. Recent distinctions include the 2026 Ernst & Gertrude Ticho Award from the American Psychoanalytic Association and the 2024 Gina Ogden Curatorial Scholarship in Sex Research from the Kinsey Institute. Dr. Walling lectures internationally on embodied clinical practice and maintains a private psychoanalytic practice in Brentwood (Los Angeles), California.
