Are you interested in conceptualizing, thinking and working more psychoanalytically? In this course you gain confidence assessing and understanding your patients’ dynamics and formulating precise psychoanalytic interpretations. You learn to attune more accurately to your patients’ primitive mental states. And most importantly, you expand your capacity to use your own responsive countertransference feelings and phantasies to meet the singular needs of your patient. A Neo-Kleinian/Bionian Intersubjective perspective is privileged in this course, but not exclusively so, in helping you develop countertransference-based psychoanalytic interpretations in your clinical work. Ample opportunity for students to share clinical cases is provided and encouraged.

• Recognize, tolerate and utilize negative transference beneficially
• Learn to use silence constructively
• Discern and utilize ‘nearly imperceptible perturbations’ in the analytic field
• Build capacity to think on your feet in critical situations while experiencing disruptive/disorienting mental and somatic state

Glenn Mowbray, PsyD, is a former radio host, public speaker, and faculty member of the Adult Psychotherapy Program at NCP, where he teaches Klein, Bion. He has chaired papers and presented clinical cases at International Bion and Frances Tustin Conferences, and at the 1st International Iranian Congress on Psychoanalysis. He is the 2013 recipient of the Elyn R. Saks Scholarship for research into schizophrenia and other psychotic states. Dr. Mowbray maintains private practices in Beverly Hills, Long Beach, and Newport Beach, where he helps high-risk, post-hospital/residential/rehab patients move forward with their lives in an intensive outpatient, team-approach, psychoanalytic holding environment.
