The IPA, in collaboration with NCP, presents

Brief Psychoanalytic Interventions in Emergency Settings

This unique course will introduce you to the principles and practices behind brief psychoanalytic interventions (4 to 8 sessions) in emergency settings, designed to assist communities impacted by disasters—such as the recent wildfires in Los Angeles.

Please note: While the presenters are Spanish-speaking, the event will be in English and NCP will not be providing a translation. Please check your Zoom settings for captions/language translation. If you need assistance with this, please refer to Zoom's support.

Participants will receive a thorough introduction to brief psychoanalytic interventions in emergency settings, gaining theoretical and practical foundations for utilizing focused methods to assist communities in crisis. You will acquire essential techniques applicable in 4-8 sessions with children, adolescents, and adults facing trauma and loss. This course aims to enhance your skills in assessing anxiety, survivor's guilt, and emotional distress while teaching strategies to build trust with first responders, evacuees, and families. Drawing on the PACE team’s international experience, you will learn how to evaluate the need for additional therapeutic support and provide initial containment.

The International Psychoanalytic Association's Committee on Psychoanalytic Assistance in Crises and Emergencies (PACE) provides psychoanalytic assistance and intervention to communities suffering from disasters of  different kinds, and to the professionals who assist them, throughout the world. It establishes links between psychoanalysis and related professions, government agencies and the general public.
