Man blowing smoke into a woman's mouth(2021, 128 minutes)

The Worst Person in the World, directed by Joachim Trier (Norway), is a romantic black comedy-drama. Julie, the protagonist, is not what you would call a committed person. In fact, she has an ornery resistance to being defined — even if that resistance costs her dearly. Trier puts a modern twist on a classically constructed character portrait of a woman in quest of meaning and love. Chronicling four years in the life of Julie “in twelve chapters," the movie delivers lyrical, unflinching, psychologically resonant and socially opportune meditations on memory, self-knowledge, and the (need for?) mutability of identity in today’s times.
