Study Group for The Tipping Point Between the Body and the Emotions

June 7, 2022, 7:30 - 9:00 PM

Study Group for

The Art of Psychosomatics: The Tipping Point Between the Body and the Emotions

This study group will be facilitated by Bart Blinder, MD.

To better appreciate the upcoming lecture by Christine Anzieu-Premmereur on June 16, we will study some of her contributions to our psychoanalytic understanding of psychodevelopmental body roots, unregulated and unsymbolized, expressed after deprived and traumatic nurturing experiences, as persisting somatic symptoms. Psychoanalytic variations in technique will be suggested and illustrated to facilitate emergence of an adaptive, regulated and relationally engaged self-organization.

You will receive a link to access readings. Please come to the study group having read the material. Required readings for this study group session are "The Process of Representation in Early Childhood" by Christine Anzieu-Premmereur; "The Mysterious leap of the somatic into the psyche" by Marilia Aisenstein from Psychosomatics Today; and "Symbolism, symbolization, and trauma in psychosomatic theory" by Graeme J. Taylor from Psychosomatics Today. Optional: "Body and Mind: Two Sides of One Coin" by Cordelia Schmidt-Hellerau.

Please note: there is a second study group corresponding to the June 18 seminar. You must RSVP for that study group separately if you wish to attend.
