Going Deeper Into Transference-Focused Psychotherapy
How To Set Up a Successful TFP Treatment - The Opening Phase in Close Detail.
In this intermediate to advanced intensive on the opening phase of TFP treatment, Frank Yeomans will guide participants in the nuances and intricacies of successful Contracting (dealing with comorbidities, self-harm, and suicidality), Precise Assessment (including demonstrated use of Kernberg’s Structural Interview), and the specific interpretive and process work built into the opening phase of TFP treatment.
The Opening Phase of treatment can spell both the success and failure of difficult cases. Applying TFP modality, ISTFP President Frank Yeomans, MD, PhD, will conduct a master class with a hyper focus on setting up a successful TFP training for difficult patients and those suffering from personality disorders.
Freud said in his Fragment of an Analysis that while taking up the transference early is difficult, it can prevent the failure of the treatment later on. By design, TFP through its contracting, confronting, clarification, and early interpretations, which are deeply connected to the contracting, brings forward the transference helping to ensure a more successful treatment for the patient who suffers from painful symptoms brought on by rigid personality organizations and consequential personality disorders.
In this intensive training, trainees will learn a fine-grain, technical-heavy approach to the Opening Phase of TFP treatment designed to stabilize the patient for sustained treatment.
According to the tenants of TFP training, clinicians will learn more about discussing diagnosis with the patient, setting up adequate treatment goals and the role of that, and, in particular, going into great detail about the ins and outs of the treatment contract with examples about contracting around different kinds of problematic presentations.
Much thought, experience, and research has gone into the Opening Phase of TFP, leading to successful treatment of difficult patients supported by evidence, including greater reflectivity, attachment, and integration.
This special two-day training will offer a diagnostic phase of treatment for patients suffering from personality disorders, including:
- Implementation of the TFP Contract
