Film and Mind Online: Da 5 Bloods

October 9, 2020, 6:00 - 10:15 PM

Join NCP as we take our Film and Mind series online!

images/da_5_bloods.jpg(2hr 34 min) (2020) Spike Lee explores the twin traumas of the war in Vietnam and racial injustice at home.  We will use the screening of the film to have a guided discussion of these two psychologically dislocating conditions.  "“Da 5 Bloods” runs two hours and thirty-four minutes, but it’s not a second too long. On the contrary, it feels compressed, bustling, and frenzied with its intellectual and dramatic energy. The action—and there’s plenty of it—is intense, furious, yet parsed with a magisterial assurance, in images that range from the sculpturally iconic to the screen-piercingly intimate”--Richard Brody, The New Yorker.

We will watch the film together on Netflix (silent comments on Zoom chat) and then meet as a Zoom group for discussion.  Apurva Shah MD and Hannah Roggenkamp MD will lead of with thought-provoking comments, and then we will have a general discussion on the issues raised.
