*CANCELLED* “Making a Person”: Psychoanalytic Work with Autistic and Psychotic Anxieties in Childhood

- Explain early infantile autistic states and their development throughout adolescence and young adulthood
- Discuss the various levels of anxieties, defences, and unconscious phantasies involved in autistic states of mind
- Describe the different technical requirements and interpretive levels involved when working with autistic states of mind
- Assess how the total transference-
countertransference situation may be utilized to establish contact with the withdrawn patient in order to promote change
Patricia O'Brien, PhD, adult and child psychoanalyst, is a graduate of The Psychoanalytic Center of California, where she also teaches and serves on PCC's Infant, Child and Adolescent Psychoanalytic Program Committee. She has a PhD from the University of Michigan in developmental and clinical psychology and is in private practice in West Los Angeles treating young children, school-age children and adults.
