SUMMARY:Film and Mind Online: Spaceship Earth
DESCRIPTION:-- Join NCP as we take our Film and Mind series online! --\n
 \nSpaceship Earth (2020) (113 minutes) is the true, stranger-than-fic
tion adventure of eight visionaries who in 1991 spent two years quaranti
ned inside a self-engineered replica of Earth's ecosystem called BIOSPHE
RE 2. The Matt Wolf documentary traces the origin and dynamics of a gro
up who passionately invent a series of environments (a theater, a farm,
a ship, a biosphere) that reflect and enable the meaningful life they se
ek. The bond of shared—and co-developed—values is set against the on
slaught of external difficulties. Group dynamics play off the diverse in
dividuals bound to explore their highest human potential.  The film exp
licitly examines the role of a charismatic leader and the benefit and de
structiveness of his narcissism. Additionally, this rich film also touch
es on the question of what constitutes "real" science, a topic that evok
es analysts’ discussion of the extent to which psychoanalysis is a sci
ence.\n\n*Streaming is available with Hulu subscription. Rental is avail
