Foundations of Mindful Parenting (MPG) Level 1: A Reflective Approach to Working with At-Risk Parents and Young Children

This two-day intensive workshop is designed for mental health and early childhood professionals working with young children and families. This relationship-focused model emphasizes slowed-down and mindful observation, flexible responsiveness, and reflection as practices that enhance and transform the quality of caregiver-child relationships. Mindful Parenting aims to promote childhood attachment security through increasing parental reflective capacity, strengthening caregiver-child interactions, and reducing hostile/intrusive caregiving behaviors. Through review of audio-video case material, the core components of this group model will be applied to work with individuals, families and groups, including approaches to working with parents whose history of trauma challenges parent-child relationship security. Qualified by CA Institute of Mental Health and L.A. County Dept. of Mental Health as a Community-Defined Evidence (CDE) model for Prevention and Early Intervention, this standalone Level 1 training experience provides a reflective foundation for work with parents and young children, and is a prerequisite for Level 2 facilitator training. This training satisfies 6 hours towards the CA Center IFECMH Endorsement.

  • Distinguish high, medium, and low RF and the relationship of RF to attachment styles and parenting behavior
