This workshop presents an introduction for clinicians to understand clinical identity formation, as well as to utilize social media and blog writing to develop, define and differentiate one’s practice. A theoretical discussion is conducted around online marketing as a form of self-disclosure and issues related to transference. Hands-on exercises help participants begin to create language about themselves and their work in a way that validates their values and practice. Participants receive guidance and direction around their challenges to succinctly delineate their areas of practice to potential patients. The focus of the workshop is to help the practitioner achieve uncompromising clarity around his or her areas of passion and expertise, in order to be able to connect with the patients whose needs best fit their particular skill-set. With increased clarity around their clinical identity and a capacity to effectively communicate it to the community, the practitioner is able to achieve mutually enlightening professional connections with those patients whom he or she can best help.  

Learning Objectives
As a result of attending this course, participants should be able to:

• Create a coherent clinical identify formulation that articulates participants’ professional values and personal vision of their work
• Analyze and delineate goals concerning their patients and describe effective ways to communicate them
• Discuss current social media trends relative to impacting frame, boundaries and transference issues
• Apply 8 steps for gaining clarity related to participants’ psychoanalytic work and its translation into everyday language

Aimee Martinez, PsyD, Director of Clinical Relations, WILA, facilitates institutional and trainee development in professional marketing.  She has had great success in both Instagram and Google Adwords to engage with the community and gain clients as well as collaborating on media pieces that have appeared on Forbes, Bustle, and lifestyle websites and blogs. In addition to her private practice, Aimee is a Clinical Associate in psychoanalytic training at the New Center for Psychoanalysis.

Eva Patrick, PsyD, works in private practice in Encino with adults and couples. She is adjunct faculty in the B.A. program of the Chicago School of Professional Psychology, LA Campus. Eva also provides workshops for clinicians on topics such as blog writing as a clinician and fee-setting in clinic and private practice settings. Eva is additionally a dissertation and project coach, assisting individuals to clarify their goals, get organized, and consistently move forward with their academic and professional projects.
