BRINGING LIFE TO END OF LIFE.

Using this funny, uplifting tale "based on an actual lie," the psychoanalytic viewer will observe and later learn from the discussion about the emergent truth of the family lie and the power of unconscious reconciliation with death when inevitability is given meditative space.

In the film, a Chinese-born, U.S.-raised young woman returns to China under the extended family’s guise of a joyful wedding, while the truth is their beloved matriarch has been given weeks to live. Everyone knows except the matriarch. This family navigates a minefield of expectations and proprieties, the effects of migration on relationships, and the role culture and age play in coping mechanisms for mourning. The benefits of an examination of the meaning of life in the face of death’s truth with patients/clients are explored in the after-film discussion.
