Double Lover

A former model named Chloe falls in love with Paul, her therapist, and the couple quickly move in together. Then Chloe discovers that her lover has an identical twin named Louis and begins a kinky affair with him that eventually reveals secrets from Paul's past. Jacqueline Bisset co-stars in Double Lover, which is directed by François Ozon and based on the novel Lives of the Twins, written by Joyce Carol Oates.

Learning Objectives

  • Apply clinically how the psychodynamic process of “expectation” transforms to the dissatisfaction of biological sex and socially–constructed gender and communal norms

Elena Balashova-Shamis, PsyD, is a psychoanalyst and faculty member at the New Center for Psychoanalysis in both the adult and child programs. She is also a faculty member at UCLA and Ryokan College, and works as a dissertation advisor. She presents seminars and workshops on various topics in psychoanalysis, sexuality, and child development. She maintains a private practice in Marina Del Rey. 

Deborah Lynn, MD, is a child and adolescent psychiatrist/general psychiatrist, and psychoanalytic candidate at the New Center for Psychoanalysis. She is a member of the clinical faculty at UCLA's Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, a consultant at City of Hope in pediatric oncology, and a lecturer at Reiss-Davis Child Development Center, NCP, and UCLA. She is in private practice in Westwood.
