Change and Transformation: Psychoanalytic Associations to the Text ‘Metamorphosis’ by Franz Kafka
Themes of transformation, reparation, symbolisation and creativity are explored, using Kafka’s story, Metamorphosis as a starting point. Dr. Bondy examines necessary conditions for reparation and change. Psychic desintegration and some archaic phenomena that are beyond speech and figurabiltiy in the story can be also encounter in certain patients. Dr. Bondy uses clinical vignettes to illustrate the factors that have allowed for psychological development and real transformation. Specific difficulties and dangers with severly regressed patients and their archaic phenomenon are discussed in view of Klein’s depressive position and Bionian concepts.
Course Objectives:
- Recognize psychic desintegration and archaic phenomena in regressed patients
- Develop strategies to help patients getting unstuck and move toward change, reparation and transformation
- Analyze transference and countertransference issues related to severely regressed patients, using Kleinian and Bionian concepts
